Water tastes better from a glass half-full.
It just does.
It’s somehow clearer, crisper and more refreshing.
Life is better when lived with optimism and positivity.
It just is.
There are many reasons this is true. Here are a few of my favorites:
Optimistic people are more resilient. People who view life with joy and optimism about the future can bounce back after a small obstacle or a big failure. They rise again. They look towards tomorrow with peace and an eager spirit. They do not dread tomorrow and they don’t think the sky is falling.
Optimistic people attract other optimistic people into their circle. Positive, optimistic people like to be around others who share this same attitude toward the world and to life. They crave positive energy and won’t spend too much time with negative people.
Optimistic people appreciate challenges. We need difficulties, and even pain, to grow, to become stronger, and to become the person we were created to be. If every day were sunny, we wouldn’t know how to dance in the rain.
Optimistic people have more fun. When you approach each day with a smile, and with the expectation that good things are going to happen, they more often do. With optimism, you’ll see reasons to smile, and to laugh, and to have fun, even in the smallest of joys—many which pessimistic people totally overlook.
Life is more beautiful when we appreciate it. Just like a glass half-full of water, life is more amazing and wonderful when we see the good. When we choose to appreciate goodness, it shows up all around us. When we choose to count our blessings, we find them. When we choose to see the best in others, we’re reminded how kind the world can actually be.
I try to see me glass as always half-full—never half-empty. Even though I have challenges, feel down somedays and have faced big failures, I know it’s all part of my life and these emotions are ok. Somedays I get sad, I lose my temper or mess up on a project. I get over it and commit to doing better next time.
I choose to live this way. It’s the only way I see as really working in the long run. Adversity is necessary for success to really come about. We must learn to overcome mistakes and limitations and rise higher after a failure.
“In optimism there is magic. In pessimism there is nothing.” ~ Abraham Hicks
When we view our glass as half-full, we know we’re blessed. We know life is amazing, complete with disappointments and hurdles. We know this is ok, and is part of the perfect plan in the amazing, unfolding story called life.
Here’s to a day not half-full, but overflowing with goodness!
