There is a word in our vocabulary that is especially bad.

This word can hold you back.

It can keep you on autopilot, and prevent you from becoming the authentic YOU!

What is this word?

It is: B-U-S-Y

Yep, “busy.”

In our over-stimulated world, we are encouraged to always be “busy.”

We are driven to fill our time with busy-ness that keeps our schedules and our minds overwhelmed.

Busy is bad.

Busy” does not equal productive.

Busy” does not equal successful.

Busy-ness” can take over your calendar, your work life and your home life. Busy days can turn into busy weeks, months and years.

Don’t let the pressure to be busy determine your days. I talk to leaders and employees all the time who are proud and happy to share their busy schedules with me. While they sure are busy, they are not always making real progress.

We are all different, but we all have important versus busy work to do.

In my line of work, here are the important things that help me move forward. These are not things that happen while I am busy being busy. They take focus and commitment.

  • Creating a new blog post
  • Writing a new book
  • Coaching a client
  • Creating and improving upon a coaching skill
  • Listening to a potential new client
  • Reading a great book
  • Meditating and praying
  • Brainstorming new ways to grow my business and touch more lives
  • Journaling ideas
  • Planning my business
  • Planning my life

I am committed to focusing on the important things more often and limiting the time each day I spend on the busy tasks. Busy tasks in my life (and maybe yours) could be any of the following:

  • Answering emails
  • Answering phone calls
  • Responding to texts, Facebook posts, tweets, LinkedIn In-Mails (be careful here – these can take over all of your time)
  • Going to meetings
  • Being overextended with non-essential commitments
  • Gossiping
  • Complaining
  • Worrying

I am committed to being less busy and more focused on what really matters. I encourage you to do the same.

Busy is bad.

You are good.

Your life and your dreams are worth it.

Cheers!
