Job Seeker’s Success Tips:

As an executive recruiter and life coach, I encounter job seekers on a daily basis. I have developed some strategies for success that I recommend to those seeking a new position.

In addition to having a current, well-written resume and customized cover letter, here are some suggestions to help you through your career transition process:

Understand Recruiters. Keep in mind that most, like me, are working directly for the hiring company, not the candidate. They are still, however, pleased to get to know qualified talent, and are open to receiving your resume. Understand that most recruiters are VERY busy these days. Time to speak on the telephone is rare, and email correspondence is much more effective and efficient, especially in the introduction stage. Please don’t get discouraged if I or other recruiters don’t call you back right away.

Get going.  If you are currently unemployed, then it is your job to make a full-time job out of the process of getting a job. Treat each and every day as critical in moving forward to achieving your goal. Now is not the time to take a long vacation or work on projects around the house.

Set Goals.  Take this opportunity to set goals for the long and short term, focusing on a healthy life balance. Spiritual, physical, relationship, emotional, intellectual, and financial aspects of your life are six priority areas to look at. Write down the things you want to accomplish, and get to work. Set a health-related goal for the next 30 days, and then achieve it. This will give you new energy and confidence.

Reach Out. Network as much as possible—each and every day. Read the book, The Power of Who, by Bob Beaudine. This book states that it is most likely that your next job will come to you from someone you know. The people who know and love you want you to succeed, and want to help you. Let them.

Be Influenced.  Surround yourself with positive people—people who will lift you up. You become the average of the five people you spend the most time with. Make an honest assessment of who you are hanging out with, and ask yourself if you want to become the average of this group.

Eliminate Television.  Don’t allow yourself to be influenced by the media’s negative energy. Our culture has found that negative news sells, and constant bombardment from these influences can have a detrimental effect on attitude. Don’t watch any TV, including the news. Use this time to pick a good book that will uplift and empower you. Read it, and then start another book.

Find an Accountability Partner. This will be a journey, and not one that you should take alone. Seek out a partner that will be instrumental in keeping the focus on achieving goals, and maintaining a positive energy. A personal development or life coach is an ideal accountability partner.

Stay Positive!  This really is a choice, and one that you should make. Your journey will go so much faster, and with more success, if you approach each and every day with a positive outlook.
